De Amal­fikust is 50 kilo­me­ter aan geter­rasseerde klif­f­en, cit­roen­boom­gaar­den en pastelk­leurige dor­p­jes boven de Tyrreense Zee. Een smalle kloof waar een bergriv­i­er de zee ont­moet tussen bij­na ver­ti­cale rotswan­den – volledig onzicht­baar vanaf de kust­weg erboven en alleen per boot bereik­baar. We varen naar bin­nen en gaan voor anker. De stilte in de fjord, de kwaliteit van het licht en het koude samen­spel van riv­i­er- en zee­wa­ter zor­gen voor een moment dat onze gas­ten steev­ast aan­halen als het onverwachte hoogtepunt van de dag. Amal­fi in de late namid­dag, benaderd vanaf zee met de cam­panile van de kathe­draal die boven de dak­en van de haven uit­steekt.
