The Fiordo di Furore (Furore Fjord) is a narrow gorge on the Amalfi Coast where a mountain river meets the sea between sheer rock walls rising approximately 30 meters on each side. It is one of the most dramatic natural formations on the entire Italian coast and is entirely inaccessible by road — the only way to enter the fjord is by boat. On a private charter, your skipper navigates into the gorge and anchors for swimming and photography. The water inside the fjord is exceptionally calm even on days with some swell on the open sea.

From Sorrento, the crossing to Amalfi is approximately 15 nautical miles — typically 60 – 80 minutes at comfortable cruising speed, depending on sea conditions and vessel. From Positano, Amalfi is about 8 nautical miles, a 30 – 45 minute sail. Both routes follow the coast rather than cutting across open water, so the journey itself is a continuous sequence of dramatic coastal scenery. A full-day charter allows time for 1 – 2 swimming stops en route and 2 – 3 hours in Amalfi town.

The Grotta dello Smeraldo (Emerald Grotto) is a sea cave near Conca dei Marini, about 5 kilometers west of Amalfi, whose interior is lit by natural light refracted through a submerged opening, giving the water a deep emerald-green luminescence. It is less famous than Capri’s Blue Grotto but similarly beautiful and significantly less crowded. Entry is by small boat inside the cave, with a separate fee. Most full-day Amalfi Coast charters can incorporate a Grotta dello Smeraldo stop on request — ask our team to include it when designing your itinerary.
